Better base building

First of all, congratulations to the Subnautica 2 development team. The game is moving in a very promising direction, and it is great to see how the franchise continues to evolve in exploration, discovery, and immersion.

I would like to suggest an improvement related to underwater base building and decoration.

Exploration has always been one of the most fascinating parts of Subnautica, but base building can also become an equally engaging experience. Players do not only want to explore the world; they also want to create their own place within it. A beautiful, functional, and personalized base can greatly increase the desire to keep playing.

One point I consider very important is that decorative items should not be purely visual. Many of them could also have practical functions. This would make base building more meaningful, because each item would have a real reason to exist inside the base.

For example, in bases built near very hot, volcanic, or environmentally extreme areas, there could be some kind of ventilation, climate control, or internal air-conditioning system. This item would have a construction cost, a logical purpose within the game world, and real utility for improving the internal conditions of the base. At the same time, it could also contribute visually to the environment, with ducts, air vents, panels, filters, or climate-control modules.

This type of feature would make decoration feel more connected to survival and immersion. Instead of items existing only to make a base look nice, they could also help the player adapt to different environments and make each base feel more alive, useful, and believable.

Another important point is that, during exploration, we often find bases and environments with incredible aesthetics, full of beautiful objects, furniture, structures, and details. However, many of these items are not available for the player to build in their own base. This can be frustrating, because the player sees something amazing in the game world and thinks: “If this already exists here, why can’t I build something similar?”

I believe making more of these elements available for construction would make a big difference. Not only as decorative items, but as pieces that help players create living, useful, and personality-filled environments.

My suggestion is that base building in Subnautica 2 evolves into something deeper, where decoration, functionality, and immersion work together. Beautiful items, but also useful ones. Environments that are not only visually pleasing, but that also have a purpose within survival, exploration, and the player’s daily routine.

Subnautica already has a fascinating world to explore. It would be amazing to also have richer tools to build an equally fascinating home within that world.

Thank you for your work, and I am excited to see how Subnautica 2 continues to evolve.

I think its a valid point, but useful only for farming or breeding creatures as each creature requires their specific conditions to grow and prosper. Maybe they could add advanced farming?

For player though, I’m not exactly sure what could you do, maybe in hot biomes player drains more water and in cold player drains more food, while in base they can make perfect conditions? idk
