Death Marker / Waypoint / Beacon

I would really love to have a death waypoint, one of the gripes is trying to figure out where the ∗∗∗∗ I died to reclaim stuff that I lost in that death. While I love the system that makes reclaiming items you lost easier by having it in a small temporary container that disappears when empty, it’s ∗∗∗∗ near impossible to remember where you died, I was only lucky to have found one at an angel comb that I died near, but that’s because I had known I died near that signal, and looking around, I found the container, but dying with no other signal near? Needle in the haystack situation. With nothing nearby to help you find it, or a signal pointing you right towards it, your better off just regathering the materials you lost, hoping that what you had is easily replaceable and hope you don’t die again. The only real downside to having a death waypoint that makes it fair, is that you got to think if you’ll die before you get there by lack of oxygen or by some creature or environmental danger. Or whatever killed you in the first place will kill you again.

Maybe optional, i understand the Idea but also like the Challenge to find it without.

I module for the suit or using the scanner from the base would be more appropriate.

I think a good way to balance this would be to make it only show up if you’re around 50m away from it plus create upgrades to increase that. My bigger issue is even if I know where I died it takes me a minute to find exactly where.

Make a craftable Item that marks your death when you have it in your inventory, like the beacon in SN1 and below zero.

You can make a beacon. I dont like that i have to use rhe habitat builder to make it and its not store able. Id like itnto be storeable. And maybe a hidden marker un signals we can turn in and off for players deaths.

I thought I’d chime in here.
Personally, I feel like an immediate ‘here’s-where-you-died’ waypoint is immersion-breaking. To me, that kind of behaviour is reserved for meta mechanics like the Refund Bases system when identifying a base.
The solution that makes the most sense in-world is the Noetic Advisor. It’s how all other black boxes in the game are found. However, it should be noted that based on in-game messaging, NoA has to search for them.
I propose that, like the lost colonists’ black boxes, the Noetic Advisor takes time to identify the location of a player’s fallen black box. If they get it before NoA finds it, great. They’re learning how to navigate the environment. To make sure people aren’t stranded, though, NoA could transmit an alert after a certain amount of time (five to ten minutes?). I feel like this is a good balance of the two options.

I disagree. I think it’d make death a lot less punishing.

If other people’s Black Boxes can have a beacon, why can’t mine? Immersion-breaking if it doesn’t have one. Maybe it takes NOA a while to find it, and that can still make death consequential enough.
