Small buildable stations that function like Below Zero’s oxygen plants. Players can place these down in deep caves, etc. to aid in exploration.
Powered by a power cell, but can be connected to existing base power sources (thermal vents, etc) to run perpetually.

I was about to post this idea. Oxygen management is too easy.
Bases and the Tadpole provide infinite oxygen.
I think there should be oxygen generators.
All the other resources require management.
Food, water, power.
We need to fabricate batteries and power cells and chargers for them.
But not oxygen.
I want oxygen to be an important resource to manage too.
Bases should have oxygen generators and either
1) a module to add oxygen tank slots
2) a craftable separate oxygen tank holder which optionally connects to the nearest generator.
Oxygen tank slots connected to a generator would passively refill any docked tanks.
We already have oxygen tanks.
Tadpoles should have slots for oxygen tanks, or bigger specialized oxygen cells like power cells are for power.
Oxygen tanks should be more than something we carry around just for us when we’re outside bases and vehicles.
We should be able to insert them into bases and vehicles.
Currently oxygen is almost an afterthought because the Tadpole is an infinite air pocket.

I think removing the infinite air supply of a tadpole or base would render the game borderline unplayable, or at least so grindy hardly anyone outside the hardcore-grind-crowd would WANT to play it any more.

I agree with this ^ if bases and vehicles had finite oxygen it would simply be annoying for the majority of players, but the point of this post is placeable external structures akin to the metal farm. And I agree, I think it’d be worthwhile having a placeable item for oxygen management gameplay when diving out of the range your subs can go.
Moments in the SN series where I have to watch my oxygen carefully and make sure I have enough left before I get back to a finite or infinite source of oxygen without having the easy bail-out card of going straight up to the surface are always thrilling and I’d like to see more of that.
