Please add official dedicated server support for Subnautica 2. Right now, multiplayer depends entirely on one player hosting — if they go offline, the session ends and no one else can play. This is a big barrier for friend groups with different schedules or time zones.
A dedicated server option (ideally with a standalone server binary, similar to other survival games like Valheim or Rust) would let players host 24/7 on a home machine or rented server, so the world is always accessible regardless of who’s online. This would massively improve the multiplayer experience and give the community a reliable way to play together long-term.
Key asks:
Standalone dedicated server executable
Server config options (difficulty, slots, password protection)
Persistent world that doesn’t depend on a specific player’s client
This is one of the most requested features in survival co-op games and would go a long way toward making Subnautica 2’s multiplayer shine.
Yes, I feel like this is a must for a game like this to succeed. When there is a persistent world with exploration, crafting, building, and progression, it doesn’t make sense to force it upon one player to host. This is evident with similar type of games that have been successful or failed.
Steam dedicated server files are simple enough and allow users and server hosting companies to host servers. This dramatically will increase the user base.

Can’t push this enough. Also please make natively supported on Linux. No one hosts game servers on Windows.

Would love this, also I do host game servers on Windows for me and friends

Please add official dedicated server support for Subnautica 2

Definitely need this, and native Linux support like mentioned above. Steamcmd is a blessing for this stuff.

Agreed this would be key - even if the player count is still limited initially, being able to make the gameplay independent of any one individual is essential for multiplayer.
I have a couple more family game purchases I would/could do if this were a thing.

Completly agree, pls add. Always relying that that “one” guy is available is a game killer. Push

Yes, would definitely like to host a server in a docker container. Also, have it auto-pause when no one is online.

Me and my friends want it

Same!

WE NEED THISSS!!!

Once they add this I will purchase the game

Agree. My brother and I live on opposite ends of the world, so we have a very small window of time to play together. Once he goes to bed, he leaves his console on to let me continue playing up until the game times him out after about and hour. It would of course be much more ideal if we didn’t have to do this.
