Base-to-Submarine. Convert a base into a submarine by attaching turbines and buoyancy control systems.

R

Base building is a fun and engaging feature, but many players dislike the long, tedious treks back to their base—or the prospect of having to abandon an established base entirely.
Therefore, a sensible alternative would be to simply mobilize the entire base itself.

All the corridors, rooms and their structures are basically anchored to the floor with only a few points and already possess all the necessary survival systems, such as oxygen generators and pressure control devices. The game also features bioreactors and turbines, and the “Tadpole” (Qualkuappe) already utilizes a buoyancy control system compatible with any chassis.

Consequently, it should be possible to transform the base into a massive, maneuverable submarine by adding propulsion turbines, control systems, and a reactor.
Once the anchors are released, the entire structure could travel wherever the player happens to be active.

To maintain game balance, several drawbacks could be implemented:

  • The movement speed of the entire structure could be kept quite slow to account for water resistance.
  • Production facilities could be configured to stop functioning—or operate at a significantly reduced speed—unless the base is securely anchored.
  • Depending on the base’s total mass, the turbines could consume a vast amount of energy, requiring the player to accumulate a large energy reserve before attempting to relocate.
  • This would allow for a nomadic playstyle, moving from one region to another, while still requiring the player to anchor the base at the destination to utilize its full functionality.
  • Which would still make the Tadepol necessary. However, it would eliminate the endless travel between the deployment site and the base, something many would greatly appreciate, especially given the far too limited storage space.
