TRIDENT: UNDERWATER MAINTENANCE & CUSTOMIZATION DOCK

I have an idea that could make owning and operating the Trident submarine much more interesting in Subnautica 2.

I would love to see a large, buildable underwater maintenance dock specifically designed for the Trident. Since the Trident is a large submarine, I think it deserves its own dedicated facility rather than relying on small vehicle stations.

The idea is to allow players to construct their own underwater submarine base, where they can dock, repair, maintain, customize, and upgrade their Trident.

  1. Large Submarine Docking System

Players could build a large docking facility on the ocean floor. The dock would need to be spacious enough to accommodate the entire Trident.

  • The Trident could enter through a large entrance.
  • Docking doors could open and close automatically.
  • The submarine could be secured inside the facility.
  • Players could walk around the dock and access different parts of the submarine.
  • The dock could have large observation windows, allowing players to see the surrounding ocean.

  • Repair System

One of the main purposes of the dock would be repairing the Trident.

  • Mechanical repair arms could automatically move around the submarine.
  • Damaged hull sections could be repaired.
  • Broken exterior components could be replaced.
  • Players would need to provide materials for repairs.
  • A maintenance interface could show the submarine’s condition and damaged components.

  • Maintenance System

The Trident could require occasional maintenance, especially after long expeditions.

  • Engine maintenance.
  • Power system checks.
  • Exterior component inspections.
  • Repairing damaged systems.
  • Checking the submarine’s overall condition.

This would make returning to the dock feel useful and rewarding.

  1. Customization System

Players could personalize their Trident.

  • Change exterior colors and paint patterns.
  • Customize lighting.
  • Change certain exterior components.
  • Add decorative elements.
  • Give the submarine a unique appearance.

  • Upgrade and Module Installation

The dock could also serve as the main location for installing and changing submarine upgrades.

  • Install new modules.
  • Remove existing modules.
  • Upgrade engine performance.
  • Improve power efficiency.
  • Add new utility systems.

A dedicated installation area could make module changes feel more realistic.

  1. A Living Maintenance Facility

I think the dock should feel like an actual submarine maintenance facility rather than just another building.

For example:

  • Mechanical arms could move while working.
  • Warning lights could activate during repairs.
  • Repair equipment could make mechanical sounds.
  • The dock could have separate areas for storage, maintenance, and customization.
  • Players could watch the repair process through observation windows.

  • Multiplayer Compatibility

This system could be especially interesting in multiplayer.

Friends could work together to maintain the Trident, collect repair materials, install upgrades, and customize the submarine.

One player could manage the maintenance systems while another prepares the submarine for the next expedition.

My Overall Idea

I think a large underwater maintenance dock would give players a much bigger reason to build large underwater bases.

The Trident is a large submarine, so having a dedicated facility to maintain and customize it would make it feel even more important.

Imagine returning from a dangerous expedition with a damaged Trident, entering your own underwater dock, closing the massive doors, and watching mechanical repair arms slowly restore your submarine.

I believe this could become a really memorable feature in Subnautica 2.
