This general idea has been submitted before, however I intend to go much further in depth. (https://subnautica2.nolt.io/12600).
I really like the idea of portable devices in this game. I think that they add a lot to gameplay, provided you don’t already have a tadpole. And it’s that last part that I really have an issue with. Because as soon as you get a tadpole, the portable oxygen generator and work light are mostly useless because the tadpole already does both of their jobs just as well if not better in some cases. So I want to add a new one. One that will not only be useful on it’s own, but also empower the other portable devices when used together.
A portable generator with two versions. One solar and one thermal. My concept of the generator would have 4 slots for batteries, functioning almost exactly like the battery charger but with a couple less slots. But where this gets a little more interesting is with cables. The generator could have two cables at either end that can attach to vehicles and or portable devices such as the oxygen generator. It would gradually fill the energy of any attached tadpoles or devices provided that it has power.
I’m pretty confident that this would make the other portable devices a lot more useful, because you wouldn’t have to worry nearly as much about powering them, making small baseless worksites a lot more do-able. Of course it would also be really useful to have on your tadpole, letting you go for a bit longer on your journeys. Especially with the haul chassis.
One concern I have is that cables could be really annoying to program, as connecting a line between two dynamic objects can be pretty difficult to make look nice as far as I’m aware, but even without that a portable battery charger would still also be pretty good.
Thanks for reading, that’s all.
