High-Risk Expeditions & Recovery Missions for Co-op

Hi Subnautica 2 team!
I absolutely love the game and I’m really excited to see how the world grows throughout Early Access.
I have one suggestion that I think could make exploration, especially in co-op, much more exciting: high-risk expedition areas where preparation and strategy really matter.
Imagine extremely deep and dangerous regions where simply having the best equipment isn’t enough. Before entering, players would need to plan carefully: which vehicle to take, how much oxygen and power they need, what equipment to bring, where to establish a forward base, and how they are going to escape if something goes wrong.
If an expedition fails, there should be meaningful consequences. You could lose valuable equipment, resources, or even a vehicle. But instead of simply losing everything permanently, recovering it could become another adventure.
For example, your team loses a vehicle deep inside a dangerous biome. Now you have to return to your main base, rebuild equipment, study what went wrong, prepare differently, establish a small outpost closer to the area, and organize a recovery mission.
In multiplayer this could be amazing. One player could pilot, another manage resources and equipment, while others explore or protect the team. A failed expedition would make everyone think:
“Okay, that destroyed us last time. This time we’re going in prepared.”
I think this kind of risk/reward system would give players a reason to build multiple bases, stock emergency equipment, develop different strategies, and continue exploring long after completing the main story.
Subnautica is at its best when you look into the darkness below you and think:
“I really shouldn’t go down there… but I NEED to know what’s there.”
Please give us places that make us feel that way again — and make us work together to survive them! 🌊🤿
