make the collector leviathan have to compete with other wildlife

this would make the collector leviathan actually realistic rather than having it just attack the player like surely it needs a food source to have survived for so long and maybe having it compete with other wildlife could make it more intimidating

The collector is kind of awkward in the game’s ecology right now. We know it eats coral crabs and jaw clams, and that it’s meant to be highly inquisitive and intelligent, but then it just goes into hyper aggression when it spots the player and ignores everything else in the world. It’s a really jarring disconnect between what the game is telling us it is and the way it acts towards the player.

I know the AI isn’t complete for it yet, but currently it’s basically just a reaper leviathan and it’s really underwhelming.

You have to consider that humans are not of typical biology for this planet. For a subaquatic being that is highly intelligent, it would likely be able to communicate with others of its own species. It’s telling all of its friends, “what is this thing??!?!” and much like humans would do, they immediately go nuclear against the alien.

In my mind, I don’t think it is jarring in the slightest that the Collector has a hyper-aggresion towards an Alien being it has never seen before, no matter how small.
Humans are the same way in this regard.. we find smaller things constantly intent on killing us such as bacteria, and we do our best to immediately erradicate it. This shines a light on the beauty of the game.

I don’t think the hyper aggression itself is bad, I just wish it actually did anything else along with just swimming in circles waiting to spot the player. I’d love to see it poke around the jaw clam shells with its arms, or reach around the rock structures searching for things that interest it. More behaviors than just being a heat seeking player killer missile that just idles in wait
