Lifeless

There’s something in the gameplay itself that feels just lifeless. In the original one I remember not wanting to finish the story because it was fun just to stay in that world. The SN2 world is uninviting. The drab colour scheme of the game is depressing.

I suggest fixing the artificial lighting, making it us more vibrant colours, and have a few biomes that feel less big so the life in it would feel substance. You need to think about why a biome’s like it - is it empty? Them there needs to be a reason for it to be, or a reason for players to go there. Is it full of things? a reason for that too. You need to think about what the player should do with it, should they be attracted to it, or should they be scared of it. Bored is not an option.

I’m sorry if it sounds a bit condescending and judging but I just want it to be a good game…

I totally agree, and I think they are trying to change this in future updates. Until then we will need to deal with it. But hey, atleast Unknown worlds cares about their players… unlike some other companies…

One of the devs in discord just mentioned how we are 4 months into EA on a game that won’t be full release for 2-3 years. They are literally still working on base systems before building all of the super fun stuff on top of it. I think the fixes you hope for are coming.

I don’t think that lightning was too much of an issue. It’s just a sea. Reason why it feels empty and lifeless to me is because there’s not enough alien fish behavior towards player. All species seem to be just swimming reskinned objects. One main thing- first subnautica even had a breeder tank and it was beautiful. Build your own flora, release fish, enjoy the view. Release fish to the wild and now they suddenly less scared and more tamed on behavior. Was awesome. We need that back.

They are obviously fixing all the mechanics first, adding new systems and improving base building. They are adding 2 vehicles in this next update which is huge, all the biome/map updates will be a priority once the game has a solid foundation. Game feels boring cus the map is small and theres very little reactive life

We are in Early Access these issues are to be expected. I did not find SN1 till late Early Access but from what I understand about it’s development SN1 went through the same steps that SN2 is going thriugh. The devs did it once and it was amazing and now they are doing it again with plans to make the game even more amazing then the first game.

I don’t have much to add other than to say that I just noticed that so far I have heard the opposite, if anything: people complaining the game is too vibrant so far and welcoming the larger, more open areas.

@PastelEditing336 Probably a difference between people who want natural beauty and people who want natural horror. Personally at least for what we have so far I think the visuals of the game are good all around, although I got the impression that the darkness underwater would shift more similarly to how it does in-life, yet it doesn’t feel that way and I’m uncertain whether or not that’s at all important.
