The infection could gradually begin affecting some larger creatures and leviathans as the player progresses further through the game.
Early in the game, infected creatures should be extremely uncommon or mostly absent. As the player reaches later parts of the game and becomes more familiar with the creatures and their normal behavior, infected versions could gradually become more common. However, they should remain uncommon overall.
This could help prevent encounters from becoming completely predictable. Once players have encountered a creature many times, they can begin to understand its normal behavior and know what to expect. An infected version could have altered behavior or abilities, making the encounter less predictable and potentially making familiar creatures threatening again.
The increase in infected creatures should be gradual and tied to progression or the state of the infection. Even near the end of the game, infected leviathans should not become common enough to make every encounter frustrating. They should remain unusual enough that encountering one feels significant, while becoming more likely than they were earlier in the game.
This would allow the infection to become a more noticeable part of the world as the game progresses while keeping infected creatures uncommon and preserving the unpredictability and tension of encountering them.
Why would there be khara bacteria on a completely different planet? AM i missing something? I thought proteus was basically poisonous to humans and not the indigenous lifeforms.

Not to sound rude, but isn’t this the Kharah storyline all over again?
