The underside of the floating island and the floating bits of the Grand Reef in Sub 1 were always the most terrifying to me. The floating island looks like void underneath when you first look down when amongst the ancient floaters. In the Grand Reef, the way the next lower floating island bit was only just visible in the deep water maximized the terror of knowing something unknown was just out of sight. These places looked and felt like the void without being out of bounds until you built up the gear/courage to go deeper. These deep, open spaces were the height of thalassophobia for me in the games and I still avoid them when possible. Which means they are perfect! :)

I agree. I think there’s an agoraphobia component of thalassophobia which was more present in S1 than S2.
