Mac users helped make your game and company sucessful. Please do not snub them now by neglecting to include them in compatibility. If it were not for mac I would not have found subnautica and reccomended it to so many others in the first place. I then went on to play the entire game through again on playstation and xbox. It all started with mac and I bought your game as gifts for others and told everyone I knew.
Neglect loyal users now and I am confident they will tell everyone they know the story of the company thet snubbed them at the first sight of success without them.
Ill buy the game once I see the Mac release announcement but never before then.

That may be sad, and I am sorry it may be, but I think optimization would be hard.
They still care for the community:)

Apple has never been a platform for gaming. It’s riddled with compatibility issues and proprietary software limitations. It’s a wonder studios port games to their systems at all.

I don’t get why people would actively downvote this tbh

It’s kind of crazy how hard this person is simping for Apple right now.
“If it were not for Mac, I would not have found Subnautica.”
You almost certainly found it the same way most people did — YouTube, Reddit, Steam recommendations, word of mouth, etc. None of those are Mac-exclusive. The platform you happened to be using at the time doesn’t make Mac responsible for you discovering the game.
Mac makes up a tiny fraction of the player base. On the original Subnautica, concurrent players on Windows are typically in the thousands, while Mac is only a very small portion of that. There simply isn’t enough demand to justify the development cost and ongoing maintenance of a native Mac version of Subnautica 2 right now, especially while the game is still in Early Access.
On top of that, Subnautica 2 runs on Unreal Engine 5. Getting UE5 games running well and efficiently on Apple Silicon is non-trivial work. Performance on Mac (even via translation layers) is often limited, and the team’s time is better spent polishing the game for the platforms that actually have the bulk of the audience.
Choosing a Mac over a Windows PC (or a console) is a personal decision. Developers aren’t obligated to support every platform just because someone bought the previous game on it. That doesn’t create an obligation for the sequel to ship on Mac day one (or even at all during early access). Mac has never been a primary gaming platform, so most studios understandably treat it as a lower-priority target.
You also said you’re going to play the game on Xbox and PlayStation, so why are you going to waste money buying a game you already own on one device and then buying it again on other devices when you already have it? Yet you’re over here begging for it on Mac. I think you really need to think about your spending decisions.
I’d rather see the developers keep focusing on content, stability, optimization, and the platforms that actually move the needle. If they decide to add Mac support after full release, fine. Prioritizing it right now would be a poor use of their resources.
