We need some sort of way to connect the trident to the base.
I have 2 ideas.
First idea is easy to do but not as cool. We drive up to our base and a tube comes out and connects to the trident. It serves two purposes, first one being a “charging cable” that lets the sub regenerate power and the second one is to connect the storage between the base and trident. Since the fabricator can pull materials from lockers, I think this is a must! We dont want to go on a resource gathering mission with our trident and then have to manually transfer items to the base.
The second idea is a larger module functioning as a docking station and an upgrade station for the trident. I was thinking since we have the new force field “doors” to the base and not bulkhead doors from sub1. Why not use that tech? I’m thinking that it looks like a large rectangle with openings at both short ends. You drive into either one of them and the docking station then starts the process of docking. I want the feeling to be immersive and cinematic (give of a pasific rim feeling). The docking proccess will look something like this:
The clamps connect with the Trident, an alarm goes off to warn people that the forcefield doors (the openings at both ends) engages and then the entire docking module begins draining the accumulated water. It then extends a bride to connect to the Trident so that you can exit the vehicle and enter your base. I think this is a really cool concept. Also the power and storage features in the first idea also work here.
I was also thinking of this docking station being a sort of upgrade station aswell! I belive there are improvements to be made to the way we upgrade our vehicles. Instead of crafting a upgrade and placing it into a slot “upgrading it”. It should be more close to how the crafting works (visually) for the vehicles. Imagine you dock your trident and then have all the materials for the depth module upgrade. It begins a “tony stark/iron man” sequence where a bunch of arms pop out and begins working on the trident, possibly adding a timer until it is done like how the proccessor does and then maybe the exterior changes to visually signal that this is an upgraded version of the trident?
What do you all think of these ideas?

I like both dock ideas. Maybe both, one for smaller bases and one for larger ones.

both ideas seem great i would love having them added into my base
Yes absolutely. Some sort of docking to bases is extremely important for “the big sub” in this game. However I think that instead of chosing between the two options you listed here (or putting both in, like Replylo suggested), it should be a mix of both.
Now, Both ideas have their ups and downs. For the first concept, I think it’s great in that it’s a very simple and easy way to intergrate your sub into your base, even if only temporarily, but it’s lacking in convenience and that ever so important cool factor. Meanwhile your second concept gets that convenience factor and importantly adds to how cinematic it would be, but would take up a little too much space when the ship isn’t there (IMO).
My personal solution to docking would be small docking station basepiece (about the size of a standard room with no add-ons) that has an extendable tube that connects to a module type thing on the sub, creating a walkway between the ship and your base, likely at either side (this would also allow you to build two and walk straight through your sub to access other parts of your base). The basepiece would have several terminals (2 or 3) that all either give information (health, customization, energy, etc) about the sub and/or allow for in-base modification of the sub (it would also allow for energy transfer and storage access between the base and the sub, as that was a really good idea).
The reason I think this would be better is because it can do everything both of your ideas can while being a bit more ergonomic. Subnautica 2 has a lot of modularity and customization for it’s bases and I think that adding an entire room to house the submarine (while quite cool) kind of defeats that.
But those are just my thoughts. Hope I’m not changing your idea too much here.

Thanks for the comments guy!
I have though some more on this and the second idea is most definitely not making it into the game (the way i wrote it).
Reason being that i had a “Sub1/BZ mindset”. They have moved on from building modules to a more customizeable base building philosophy. So it has to be intigraded the same way as the scanner room (sub1) became the scanner station in (sub2).
But i still hope we get a way to dock the trident and that its cooler than the first idea i had.
