The collector leviathan isn’t as smart as it should be. I think a good way to make us (the players) feel like the collector is intellegent is to give it different attack patterns that evolve throughout the playthrough.
For example: That the first flares you use as a distraction works to distract the collector, but then it learns from those encounters and starts ignoring the flares. Or (in co-op) if your friend/friends distract it with a tadpole and you scan it with a normal scanner it works fine. But when you redo it with the bio scanner it wont be distracted and goes for the player with the bioscanner right away. That forces the player to get the camouflage biomod to be able to scan the collector.
You could even expand on this with logs of colonists talking about how they used something to get away/distract/lure it and then we try the same thing and it doesnt work (and then the pda/noa comes in to explain that it seems to have learned from earlier encounters).
Also on a side note (why isnt there any logs of the colonists encountering the collector, but there is rumors of the collector roaming the world (example: the relocation of sleep bay 3 and the wreck over the viral bloom node).
I would like to see the collectors having a behaviour of being curious. Like it learns that we always come from the east, it starts roaming closer to east until it finds our base there (so either you have to plan how you move before you encounter it in its “starting biome or it makes you relocate your bases often since it will come and attack you in other biomes).
(i also have ideas of base upgrades similar to how we upgrade our vehicles. and an overhaul for the upgrades aswell).

Sleep bay 3 seems too big to be the collector’s work. It was described as being thrown, which means something much bigger and stronger picked it up and sent it flying

Your right! Either there is some other creature out there who is larger and stronger or that:
