Make Biomods feel more earned

I really like the Biomod system and I think it is a great addition to Subnautica.

My main issue is how quickly the player can access it. Very early in the game, Biomods can feel like something that is simply given to the player by a machine after providing the required power and basic resources.

I think Biomods would be much more interesting if the player had to discover, research and develop them first.

For example, the player could find research data, scan specific creatures, gather rarer biological materials and progressively understand how the Biomod works before finally being able to create it.

I would still keep Biomods as an early-game system, but I think they should feel like something the player discovers and develops over the first few hours rather than something obtained almost immediately.

The goal should be to make Biomods feel like a technology the player understands and develops, rather than a power simply handed to them.

Biomods should require some sorta jelly like some of the old dev vlogs suggested

I haven’t really followed the old developer blogs, mainly because I don’t speak English very well, so I can’t really comment on that specific idea.

But I agree that having Biomods require some kind of biological material or gel-like substance would make much more sense to me.

My main problem isn’t really the Biomod system itself. I actually like the concept. It’s that they are currently very easy to obtain. You mostly need the machine, some basic resources and a few scans or prerequisites, and then you can get very advanced biological modifications extremely early.

I think they would feel much better if developing them required more experimentation, rarer biological resources and a stronger sense of research.

So having some kind of special biological material involved would definitely make the system feel more grounded and meaningful to me.
