I would love to see a real surface exploration section added to Subnautica 2, similar to what Below Zero did.
The surface in Below Zero was one of the most interesting additions to the formula. It created a completely different environment and allowed for different survival mechanics, exploration and atmosphere.
However, I would not want Subnautica 2 to simply copy Below Zero. The surface should be much more developed and filled with meaningful exploration, wildlife, resources, points of interest and environmental gameplay.
A substantial surface area would also provide a much stronger contrast to the underwater world and make the planet feel more diverse.

I think this is pretty much what the tree is gonna be, but it would be nice to have a few of them.

I was thinking less about the giant tree itself and more about having a proper surface exploration area around it.
What I really liked about Below Zero was having small islands and different surface areas that you could actually explore, with wildlife, structures, resources and points of interest. The cold and temperature system also made being on the surface feel different from underwater exploration.
Since this is a different planet, I don’t think it has to be the same type of environment as Below Zero. It could have completely different surface ecosystems, creatures, structures or environmental mechanics.
The giant tree could even be one part of such an area rather than the entire surface experience. I think having a meaningful surface section would add a lot of variety to exploration.
