I understand why the ore-containing outcrops in SN1 and BZ have been replaced by plain ores in SN2 – the RNG could feel a bit malicious at times. And of course there’s the in-game explanation of the water being full of dissolved metals, which sometimes precipitate out.
However, I preferred the style of the outcrops over ores just lying around everywhere. Right now it feels a bit like Planet Crafter – which is a very good game in its own right, but it is a different, more simplistic style than Subnautica. It feels a bit like the game is exposing its underpinnings, shouting “Resources! Get yer resources here!” rather than the resources being a natural part of the world.
I’m not suggesting a return to the old RNG system, but I’d at least like the ores covered with something. Limestone over quartz, slate over copper, etc. Just to avoid the “game-y” feel of resources just lying about everywhere.
(Of course I mean just the single ores. The larger chunks are fine, as they were in SN1 and BZ.)

Outcrops were native to 4546b, not Proteus

Fully agree, rn the resources really scream “useful video game item! Come pick me up!” rather than being natural extensions of the world we’re in

I think the resources would fit the world better if they weren’t so out of place in their surroundings. If they blended with the terrain a bit better and just looked like natural deposits it would feel way nicer
