Sediment

Sediment.

This is something I think could be interesting to explore for the game devs in some areas of caves or narrow passageways. Kicking up dust with fins can reduce visibility. Equipping the flashlight 🔦 will increase a players line of sight and gives a reason to bring it.

I reckon some of the cave systems you can see too far in the distance, adding tiny bit of fog or particles can up the horror aspect of exploring deeper down the caves.

Obviously lights from plants and fish can illuminate areas to help you. But I believe this is something that’s needs to be added!!

Appreciate the read!!

I’d love a murky low visibility biome in general. Animals adapted to use sound to navigate, predators that can track prey by feeling the water currents created by movement, etc. Needing to navigate by sticking close to terrain and learning landmarks. I think it would be fantastic

Issue I have with that is that torches do not help with seeing through sediment (or fog). It’s the reason silt outs can be so lethal.

Mirky/low visibility is a decent idea but actually triggering it by the fins sounds like a nightmare for those with less powerful computers.

Honestly I’d say the devs already do a fairly decent job of this in certain biomes but it could be improved upon.

I agree I think triggering low visibility is probably too much hassle. But general sediment or lower visibility in some caves would be nice, obviously not for all. I think the lighting in some is too much and we need more murky waters.

they could add some in key areas.. caves with currents at one opening should result in some flow and turbulence (kicking up sediments) along the cave..

similar to where the acid spewing sponge are, the water there should have some tint as the acid cloud would dilute away instead of fully dissipating into nothing..

I love the idea of giving the flashlight an actual reason to exist. Maybe an Axum upgrade could turn it into some kind of foglight?

I think there just aren’t that many caves yet?

Lighting is something that can be changed as things progress so I feel like it’s going to be low priority until some larger cave systems are in the game.
