When I played Subnautica (1 and BZ), sometimes to understand the relief of different biomes, I used scanning rooms and always dreamed of new feature - possibility to connect different scanning rooms in one system, so you can scan different areas of the map to find almost every resources on the map and also see the whole map with all caves and etc.
What I suggest:
The first option: in Subnautica 2 we already have scanning station with 300 m radius (I hope in the future we will have the ability to increase the range), - I suggest to add a connection system of scanning rooms, so players can:
1) scan more regions for different resources from 1 station
2) use that system as in-game map and add a module to use by players (while not in transport) and add a map to all transport with no need to install mods.
3) Due to some ?leaks? we know that Trident will have autopilot (or cruise control?) - I think that in scanned area on special terminal player can create a route, so the Trident can automatically move on that route.
In that way to scan all parts of the map player should build a lot of bases just to place scanning station - (Im not a developer) I think its might be easier to add - its just the question of adding a new mechanic, but I think second option is better.
The second option: player can build only one scanning station on the base, but I suggest to add a buildable scanning post (player will build it just like metal farm and connect power source to it). In my imagination it look like a small tower with radars - it scans the territory in some radius and the player can see the relief, resources and maybe big creatures; and while that post is active - player that uses map module can navigate on the scanned territory. Suggestion with Trident autopilot feature works there too.
Players always needed a way to navigate. Subnautica 2 map will be giant and players need in-game map system. In my opinion - this suggestion of implementing is very good.
