Needlers need rework

Biologically speaking, the needlers are an absolute impossibility. There simply can’t exist a creature with an inexhaustible supply of extremely hard darts.

Proposed rework:

  • Needlers get a central, narwhale like horn between their needles.
  • Needles only have five needles.
  • The Needler will only ever shoot one at a time, albeit with extreme precision and damage
  • Once its Shot is out, it will go in after it and attack with its horn
  • Once it has shot five times, it takes a day or two ingame time for the teeth to regrow, in which time the needler can only attack close-quarters.

Gameplay benefit:

  • The needlers feel like actual living creatures instead of like a force of nature slash deus ex machina
  • The player needs to adapt his or her playstyle. The player can
    – Try to see at a distance if the needler still has needles left
    – Try to force the needler to exhaust its supply (if done right, a needler with a lower number of needles remaining will be more conservative and less prone to wasting one
    – adapt their reaction to needlers depending on how many needles he or she dodged lately
    – find out the hard way the needler was more willing to spend its precious last needle than they thouhght

Further ideas:

  • Give needlers a procedurally-generated visual pattern, so players can identify individual animals
  • Adapt the needlers behavior whether it has full magazines, only one or two, or no needles left - real world animals DO change their behavior depending on the state of their defensive measures, e.g. venomous snakes and octopusses.

Lol this sounds so much like chatgpt wrote it. I do agree though

I like their ranged attacks. Rather than this idea, I would prefer the needles to be shot like how they are in the trailer, and for it to be collectable. The amount of needles is explained though.

Sounds ai but still a good suggestion. Also i hope they make the needlers more like the one in the cinematic trailer, that one was very aggressive and went in for close range attacks and it felt terrifying

Perhaps they could occasionally be seen scowering for nutrients to regrow their needles, either through hunting or consuming something else in the environment? Would be another way to make them feel more like real animals.
