Does my guy have to throw his hands in the air in first person every time he enters the habitat or comes out of the water as though he were hopping up and down on a trampoline?
Kindly don’t get me wrong. UWE’s animators are top notch, but….
I am hoping for a return of the dolphin leap mechanic/animation that was absolute perfection. (Posted a separate Nolt entry about that.) The BZ animation when using the air bladder was the worst, with that arm sticking straight out above the avatar’s head while it flew forty feet in the air, unlike the dolphin leap that was removed.
Along with the closed-fisted “fast mall walk” animation when walk speed actually has been lowered by a noxious amount, these animations are unnatural, highly exaggerated and, ultimately, distracting to the point that it’s nearly impossible to get lost in the feel, mood and atmosphere of the game while in and around the habitat for rolling my eyes at them.

the dive animation (or at least a placeholder for it) was in the game, but buggy when jumping onto a tadpole docked in a moonpool- so it got removed
airbladder will also get animations (item and player) iirc
a lot of things arent animated yet in general, prime example being tadpole docking not having any animations at all (hopefully this will change)
animating takes a LOT of time to get right, and considering how many animations are needed for pretty much everything, creatures are probably the top priority to be animated
I should know, I also animate.. takes a lot of time dude….

@ProudGuitar151 I know. Animation is hard. I found a video on animating doors in video games fascinating. There are so many variables to take into account, it’s no wonder most video game characters and avatars just run into doors with their hand raised. lol Grabbing the handle; turning it; the door not clipping with or hitting something on one or the other side; etc. The “solution” of sliding doors that slide up and down or side to side into walls; etc. Good stuff. Not everything has to be “realistic” for me and, in some cases, I’d just as soon they weren’t.
But, that BZ animation is in the finished game. If we don’t voice our criticisms before it’s finished, they’ll never be heard, much less addressed.
