I don’t know how much biome expansion is planned or we will see, but this feedback is for the current state of the game. It feels like I can find remains of colonists and structures every 100 meters. Combined with the linearness of the current map, it’s making for an almost claustrophobic experience. There’s just so many PDA or blackbox pickups, and honestly, a lot of it feels like fat that can be cut down. It feels rly bad for my ADHD to swim not even 50 meters away from something i found to find something else, and something else, and something else, and something else…. spread things out more!! make us search a bit and be led around more to find out whats going on on this planet. Give us more choice tasty treats instead of a constant stream of snack food. The first game was so much more open and spaced out, i feel a lot more engaged with the environment from how familiar i have to get with it to navigate around and find the abandoned bases and wrecks and stuff. Love the game tho, looking forward to how it looks in a few years!!

Yes as long as its not too spaced out

I don’t know. People are getting tired of the “bigger is better” and “more is good” philosophy of game design wherein open worlds have huge swaths of nothing but landscape in between POIs with hundreds of question marks that turn out to be filler. I actually compliment UWE on how densely packed and thoughtful/meaningful (as opposed to filler) every placement is in comparison without eliminating the open world feel. At the same time, 500m-1km between major POIs seems about right.
I do hope the linearity diminishes quite a bit with the map possibly becoming a panorama around a central point (the World Tree) with overlapping biomes as it feels you’re going in pretty much the same direction all the time and the biome boundaries are too stark. I also can’t say I’m overly fond of the enclosure of regions with a heavy concentration of tasks to perform and story that more or less demand you stay there and build new habitats everywhere you go. That’s what makes it feel claustrophobic to me.

GracefulCelebration600, I disagree. Subnautica BZ tried to condense everything, and it just made the map claustrophobic. Exploration is the best part. Being quick and having a huge map is better than being slow and having a small map. :)

GracefulCelebration600 subnautica is probably the one game that benefits from emptyness since it creates a feeling of dread and that you are small in the ocean
