Keyboard and Mouse Controls

Even compared to previous Subnautica games, keyboard and mouse controls are a little wonky and custom settings don’t appear to work.

  1. I always use ‘E’ to interact. If interact is set to ‘E’, however, flashlights and such don’t work correctly. ‘E’ turns them on and off and you can’t interact with objects. Suggestion: add a separate key for turning flashlights on and off with the keyboard. I’d suggest ‘F’ as its standard, but you’ve already used ‘F’ to drop storage boxes instead of using the primary mouse button in the most recent patch.

  2. Speaking of the primary and secondary mouse buttons, everything is reversed from former games. Primary actions, e.g. scanning flora and fauna, are defaulted to the secondary mouse button as opposed to the primary. This has been a little difficult to get used to. My brain is trained to the use the primary button for primary actions. If I go back to play Sub1, everything feels much more natural with the exception of the fact that more than one interaction is often attached to the same thing, e.g. opening duffle bags and/or picking them up. This causes the same issues as the flashlight issues above.

Most PC ports are pretty bad. Elden Ring takes the prize, I think. There are only so many buttons on a controller. These are pretty minor in comparison, but don’t exactly follow standards set for PC.
