This is a larger suggestion, but I’d love it if there was (or were more) biomes that have undergone ecological collapse. These biomes could have little diversity (like the Necrolei hills), and have an eerie, desolate OST. The few nektonic organisms in them could be sluggish, implying their ill or starving.
I found the parts of the game implying that Proteus is undergoing some nightmarish ecological collapse incredibly eerie. I got chills when I listened to one of Nahema’s voice logs and realized what was being implied. It’s a truly unsettling kind of horror that is rarely evoked in media. I’d love to see more of it.
It’d be incredible if Subnautica 2 in part allowed one to experience and process ecological horror and grief, that allows one to mourn phenomena that are rarely acknowledged, let alone mourned. It’d be a meaningful piece of art.
