The Dark Zone

This would be a biome where the entire visible spectrum is suppressed or otherwise cant be used. Special creatures exist here that use other parts of the EM spectrum to see or sense. Or potentially are completely blind. I would also argue that sonar should not work without an upgrade here.

Once you have the vision upgrades, you can see what is in the biome. This would allow the devs to create an entirely unique biome with very odd visuals. Maybe take inspiration from that fluid-esk episode of Voyager where the ship was turned into a misshapen blob while passing through something, and everything looked warped.
