Possible plot hole in black boxes

Serveral of the black boxes in the old habitat date from -235000h and list moderate to severe starvation. Another black box of Anita Gotschall found near the first angel comb suggests that by -250000h, the colonists had access to the digestion adaption, which begs the question, why were they still (or once more) starving almost two years later?

I was under the impression that one faction embraced the idea of adapting their biology to survive on the planet and the other rejected it, insisting on eating only food they’d grown, etc.

That is as may be, but the black boxes most of those “starvation” comments are found are from Sophie Boucher’s faction, who were the pragmatic group if I understand things right.
