A practical and adorable pet system.

Hi Team!
I would love to suggest a more functional “Pet/Companion” system for the upcoming game. Instead of just having a cute creature at the base, it would be amazing to have a loyal companion that can explore the ocean with us.
Key Features:
Customizable Gear: We could equip it with small modules like a mini-storage pouch for extra loot or a wide-range organic light to illuminate dark caves.
Smart Survival: If the player dies, the creature should have a “Flee to Base” instinct, safely returning home on its own so we don’t lose it.
Assistant Collector: It could help pick up valuable small items dropped near it, making resource gathering more fluid.
Interaction: A bonding system where we need to feed it special treats to keep its energy up and strengthen the relationship.
I believe having a functional companion would add a lot of heart to the game and make the deep-sea exploration feel less lonely. Thank you for considering my idea!

I feel like that defeats the point of going back to a more isolated feel, like in SN1

@PastelEditing336. That’s a fair point about the isolation! However, I think this could be implemented in a way that actually enhances the experience rather than defeating it:

  1. It’s Optional: This companion could be a mid-to-late game unlock. Players who prefer the pure, lonely survival experience can simply choose not to use it.

  2. Focus on Utility, not Safety: The companion wouldn’t be a bodyguard. It won’t fight for you. Its purpose is to reduce the ‘inventory grind’ and provide light, allowing you to stay longer in those terrifying, deep biomes. The fear of the unknown is still there!

  3. High Emotional Stakes: Instead of making the game feel ‘safer,’ it adds a new layer of responsibility. If you die and your pet has to flee, or if it gets targeted by predators, it creates a unique kind of tension. You aren’t just surviving for yourself anymore; you’re protecting a loyal friend.

It’s less about making the game ‘easy’ and more about making the exploration feel more fluid and emotionally engaging for solo players.

So, it’s optional, but if you choose not to, you lose notable uti utility? Also, I hate that I can’t be sure anymore that your answer wasn’t written by an LLM.

@PastelEditing336 I totally get that! I was worried I sounded too much like an AI myself 😅. Since English isn’t my first language, I used a translator to help express my thoughts, which is probably why it felt that way. But I promise all these ideas are 100% my own! 😊

@PastelEditing336(So, it’s optional, but if you choose not to, you lose notable uti utility?) I see it mainly as a matter of player interest. If you don’t plan to engage with the pet system, then it isn’t necessary for you. You can still keep a pet without actively using it, for example by leaving it at home.
