A biome at a depth deeper than the mariana trench (10.000m+), which contains one leviathan similar size to gargantuan leviathan. Something really horrific, perhaps this could be considered in the future as more biomes appear and more story. But imagine how crazy this would be for fans… not a small 500-1000m… but 10.000m+. The leviathan must be huge, so huge it cant even fit the full picture, so huge and massive… it would be called… The Destroyer Of All Depth. SIZE MATTERS! WE NEED IT HUGE. HUGGGEEEE

I’ve never really seen the appeal of the unrealistically gargantuan leviathans. They are beyond the possibility for suspension of disbelief for me. Part of the appeal of these games is the consideration of how the biology of alien creatures would work, balancing the rule-of-cool with considerations of realism. Gargantuan leviathans to me go too far so that they are no where near realistic, and therefor not cool in the way these games can achieve - how does this creature’s nervous system send signals through thousands of meters of synapses quickly enough for them to be actionable? How does this kilometers-long carnivore find enough calories to move the way it does? I think the size of the extant leviathans has been pretty much spot on to balance spectacle with embellished realism, and hinting at extinct gargantuans is already too far into implausibility for me. But judging by the popularity of the gargantuan mod for S1, I realize I am likely in the minority. If the game were to explicitly answer how such large biological systems would work, I could probably get behind this.
I can see both sides of this discussion.
On one hand, I understand why some players enjoy the idea of an enormous leviathan. The mystery surrounding the Gargantuan Leviathan in the first Subnautica sparked a lot of imagination, so I can definitely see why people would like to see something even larger.
On the other hand, Subnautica 2 seems to be taking a different direction, with more active ecosystems and creatures that feel grounded within the world’s biology. Personally, I’d rather see the developers focus on making the existing leviathans more dynamic, believable, and memorable through improved behavior and AI than simply introducing something thousands of meters long.
Since Subnautica 2 is still in Early Access, it’s probably too early to know exactly what the developers have planned. Creature behaviors, ecosystems, lore, and even biome design are all likely to evolve over time.
If they ever decide to introduce an extremely large leviathan, I’d hope it has a believable ecological role and serves a meaningful purpose in the world, rather than existing purely because of its size
