Steam Deck & Gameplay Wishlist

Hi Unknown Worlds,

First of all, thank you for creating such a promising Early Access experience. Subnautica 2 already feels great on Steam Deck and runs surprisingly well considering how ambitious and beautiful the game is.

One small suggestion for Steam Deck players: a smooth UI scaling slider would be wonderful. Being able to fine-tune the interface size instead of choosing only fixed presets would make handheld play even more comfortable.

As for the game itself, I think Subnautica 2 has the potential to become even richer by giving explorers more reasons to keep searching long after they’ve built their base.

Some ideas:

Rare color variations of existing creatures could make exploration even more rewarding. Some variants might only appear in certain biomes, seasons, depths, or under unusual environmental conditions, giving players long-term goals beyond simply scanning every species.
Some peaceful species could perhaps be raised from eggs and gradually become accustomed to living near a player’s habitat. They could provide small renewable resources, occasionally bring back interesting items, or simply become companions that make a base feel more alive. Nothing too powerful—just another reason to care about the local ecosystem.
Lost backpacks and expedition gear hidden around the world could contain discoveries such as:
Photographs of strange creatures
Damaged PDA logs
Name tags or research badges
Scientific samples
Rare decorative items for bases
Eggs from unusual creature variants
Finding these backpacks would create that constant feeling that there might be something unique behind the next rock, inside the next cave, or hidden deep within a trench.
I also love the mystery of Subnautica, and I think it could be interesting if players occasionally discovered subtle signs that they might not have been the only ones to arrive on this planet. Not settlements or busy hubs, but small clues and stories left behind by others.

After all, if we somehow ended up on this massive ocean world, perhaps it wasn’t entirely by chance. Maybe others did too.

Subnautica’s feeling of isolation is one of its greatest strengths, and I wouldn’t want to lose that. But a few more rare discoveries, collectibles, and mysteries to piece together could make exploration even more memorable and rewarding for players who enjoy searching every corner of the ocean.

Thank you for listening to community feedback. Subnautica 2 already has enormous potential, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves.
