It would be cool if the tadpole shot out flares with a button. You have to stock it with the flares too, maybe 5 total

it would be cool to not only gets a few tools to defend, but also have ways to mitigate aggresion by understanding the creatures behavior - it would be cool to have the option for some NoA research side quests into the native wildlife learn about it and unlock more tools to deal with it: https://subnautica2.nolt.io/8257
