The key elements of the ‘lore’ are revealed real early. A slow reveal would really be nice. Also, none of the events resonate the same way as the explosion of the ship in the first game, resolution of the radiation problems, or the failed rescue. In the first game, it felt very real because there were people out there looking for help, but you never got there in time – and then there was a rescue ship coming, but it didn’t work out.
This doesn’t need to work the same way, of course, but a much slower reveal of, say, an increasingly unhinged AI or of scary alien motivations or something would build more foreboding.
