AI assisted vision in vehicles

The player is a member of a vastly evolved humanoid race. It would make sense for the vehicles to have some form of assisted AI HUDs that can scan the local enironment (perhaps using sonar bursts?) and display detailed information on the glass windshield (perhaps using a customizable filtering subsystem to not display everything but selectively) to show or highlight for the player useful things like say resource types in the FOV or some info about the animals in view? This could evolve into some really cool subsystem of the game.
