We need to be able to kill fish, like in SN1.
why?
Your current approach achieves none of the stated goals, AND annoys people and destroys immersion.
1: Humans basically feel things by contrast. Thus allowing some level of ineffrective violence shows the futility of fighting monsters better than disallowing it entirely. We’re not weak against monsters we can’t kill, they’e an environmental hazard like a lava field. Just ignore them and keep going, since there’s nothing to do.
2: ‘We don’t want this game to be about killing’ You failed. This game is about nothing BUT killing. You can cook and eat fish. THEY can eat us over and over. it’s part of the frikking story. You gave us a frikking GUN [the upgraded sonic cannon] that can kill infected fsh and plants, but not other fish and plants.
3: This is a survival game where we are not allowed to survive.
4: It destroys immersion. In SN1 we had sensible in story explanations for things. We COULD kill things, there were just no guns. But we could kills small to medium fish with the knife, running them over with a sub, gasopods, claws and drill arms. NOw we have to se a rock crushing drill arm/claw/axe, mysteriously and magically NOT kill a fish so small and helpless that we can grab it bare handed, and stuff it in an over. This is stupid, incoherent and immersion breaking.
5: if you wanna teach people about ecological balance, then LET people ∗∗∗∗∗ it up by overfishing or whatever, thus if they want edible fish back, they have to go to other biomes to repopulate the area. What you’re doing now is teaching people not to care.
Suggestion: have the same basic idea as SN1. you can kill fish with an axe and some persistence. Sonic cannon too. That’s it. no pulse rifles needed.
