'Builder Tool'(Habitat Builder) control system revision request

TO: “Alterra ‘Tech Dep.’/FRM” - TYPE: “‘Builder Tool’(Habitat Builder) control system revision request”
Requesting a revision on the Builder Tool’s control scheme for improving quality of life, as at the moment (in v7.5ScS) it presents quite cumbersome controls that lead to complications when trying to errect and furnish new constructions. The few requests I have would have to be revised by Alterra and subsequently updated by the FRM if seen fit. It is important to note that these points are feedback and not a full guide “on how to”, Alterra holds the rights and power over the modification and creation of everything (‘All Hail Alterra!’ - pls don’t indebt me further for any unprofessionalism, grammar or ‘smugness’ of mine, I’m just a Bagatur trying to survive "-PDA detects poor levels of performance, suggesting optimal Biobed configuration").

Now, the report is divided into two parts: the new Builder Tool layout model and its defining four different proposed modes (as well as possibly some ranting).

The basic Builder Tool layout scheme could be improved by just having 4 modes:

  • Menu (For selecting what actions to perform)
  • Build (Passing first by a selection menu where to pick and then place a building or object)
  • Deconstruct (To select what to deconstruct and how much)
  • Edit (For stylizing and modifying already built structures)

Note that with the current model, the modes for editing structures are clicks apart (For example, building parts of the base and also then wanting to ‘shrink’ them are separated by a lengthy ‘click game’ with slow delays. First, you have to build or exit build mode, pass through deconstruct mode and then enter shrink mode through delays between them). So, this model could (In my opinion, pls Alterra don’t kill me) improve the simplicity and remove building conflicts that the current model has, thus improving usability. (Quick little note, can lockers have the change name field directly within the UI that shows the inventory? Just like on top of the inventory on the right. Also, this could be the same for battery/powercell chargers and habitat power storage. Maybe there could be a contol panel that allows control of all devices? Also, could holding ‘F’ be universal for droping tools? Passing tools to buddies is a bit of a roundabout).

Menu - the default mode active when first use of the Builder Tool:

  • ‘Left Click’ enter ‘Build’ mode though a build selection menu.
  • ‘Right Click’ enter ‘Deconstruct’ mode.
  • ‘F’ enter ‘Edit’ mode.
  • Note that ‘Q’, ‘E’ and ‘Scroll Wheel’ are free for use for biomods (As ‘Shift’ conflicts with sprint) and tool belt navegation.

Build - entered through a build selection menu to select building structures or furniture to place:

  • ‘Left Click’ place down build of choice.
  • ‘Right Click’ cancel build and go back to ‘Menu’.
  • ‘F’ turn on and off snap to grid.
  • ‘Q’ and ‘E’ to minimize and maximize structure size symmetrically (Structures would size equally on all axes and have a ‘minimum’ smallest size that would allow better fitting into tight spaces) or to change type of furniture (For example, switching between different types of plant styles or decoration items like the ‘Axum Jar’)
  • ‘Scroll Wheel’ to rotate.

Deconstruct - mode for all that has to do with eradicating imperfections or sculpting what’s built:

  • ‘Left Click’ deconstruct selected structure selection.
  • ‘Right Click’ cancel deconstruct and return to ‘Menu’.
  • ‘F’ change between the largest decontruct section and smallest to deconstruct large areas and unique building sections (Like deconstructing just a section of a corridor, or deconstructing the WHOLE corridor)
  • ‘Q’ and ‘E’ to shrink and grow the deconstruct selection horizontally with ‘Scroll Wheel’ for vertically (Reason: This would allow carving ‘holes’ into ‘Rooms’ while also being able to control the size of the holes, allowing for better sculpting).

Edit - additional mode for minor changes and styling:

  • ‘Left Click’ move or ‘stylize’ the object pointed at depending on what it may allow (For example, a window corner will show it able to change between round and sharp corners while a locker will show the ability to move it).
  • ‘E’ will allow to copy structures for placing, where while within this copy mode it will behave like ‘Build’ except that it won’t have the initial build selection menu and ‘Right Click’ will return to back to ‘Edit’ mode instead of ‘Menu’.
  • ‘Q’ select a color or color scheme from a color wheel/square for use with ‘Right Click’ to color objects (For example, color highlights, stylize vehicles, etc).
  • ‘F’ exit mode to ‘Menu’.

AHA! for all their great contributions and innovations for humanity and beyond.

Forever love and fun
-A
