Base Damage and Creature Attacks

It would be interesting if player bases were not always completely safe. Some larger or more aggressive creatures could have the ability to damage base structures, making the world feel more dangerous and alive.

In the original Subnautica, bases could lose hull integrity and become flooded. In Subnautica 2, this system could be expanded further. For example, attacks from certain creatures could damage walls, disable power systems, destroy modules, or, in extreme cases, cause sections of the base to flood.

This mechanic would add more realism, tension, and challenge to the game. It would also encourage players to think more carefully about base location, maintenance, and potentially invest in defensive or automated repair systems.

i miss that mechanic and i would like to add to this by saying if you built your base near the collector it could stick its arms/tentecals in the hatch/hatchs and moonpools of your base and wreck your base trying to grab you and it can break the windows of your base and cause flooding.

If this gets added it should be a toggleable setting which is defaulted to “off”

I’m not saying that every time you return from an expedition, your base should be damaged. I mean it more as a random event that could occasionally happen and add some tension to the game.

And of course, I didn’t mean that we’d have to build walls made of rooms around our bases. We all want to have a nice view outside. I’d rather see some kind of electronic defense system that would have an extremely high power draw while active. That way, players would have to manage their energy usage and wouldn’t be able to keep everything running at full capacity all the time.

I’d also add the ability to classify base systems as either critical or non-critical. Critical systems could include things like life support, the Fabricator, and water pumps, while processors and other secondary systems would fall into a different category. Ideally, every player could decide for themselves which systems are most important.

Basically, I don’t think a base should be completely maintenance-free. It should occasionally require some attention from the player. But that’s just my opinion.
