What the hauler is meant for

A hauler should be able to haul. period.

The large crates we find at some of the abandoned places? those look like they are meant to be moveable. And since we have a hauler, it’s a perfect match (see screenshots). Its extra downwards looking camera is almost designed for the purpose to locate cargo below, to grab it and haul it back to base.

And this scenario: imagine exploring with your Scout Ray some area far way from base, getting out and dieing. How to get your vehicle back to base? If there was just another vehicle that could haul it back home…

I had another idea - why not make large wrackage parts also able to be hauled? This would come along with a new exterior base module for scrapping and recycling. It would be able to recover resources from any wrackage. Destroyed tadpoles would leave wrackage behind that could be scrapped - and allow to scrap those from the previous colonists. Scrapping of crafted chassis and vehicles would recover the resources spent.

A haul mechanic would have more uses beyond that, including for the story. There could be specal area with large plants growing something very useful but too large to harvest and transport by hand - the hauler would just be the heavy machinery needed to move it. that would give it a very unique purpose and worth all the trade-offs.

THIS IS GREAT!! i liked being able to “steal” the lockers from the little wreckage sites, and doing the same for the big crates would be even more fun and Useful :0 i also love the idea of “cleaning up” wreckages!
