Leviathans

L

Might just be me, but the hostile leviathans that ive met so far (collector leviathan, shiver leviathan) feel underwhelming. They dont feel scary or dangerous. Rather weak and predictable. I thing chanegs to the music and depth to their AI would go a long way. A cool addition improving both the scariness and predictability would be a hunting mechanic. Having music for the hunting state and chasing state sounds like a good idea too.

Agreed, I sort of expected the collector to grab hold of the tadpole and drag it backwards or down and then have to eject either the chassis or from the tadpole to escape.

the collector is extremely passive and doesnt chase you at all, if you simply leave his agro area he gives up and swims away. I remember in sub1 where the reapers would chase you to the surface to eat you. not only that but the collector is so slow.

there is an extremely rare interation between the tadpole and collector where he grabs the tadpole, brings it to his eye, then tosses you away, its kind of similar to the reaper grabbing you in sub1. im really dissapointed because that is such a cool interaction but because of how incompetent the collector is it never gets to happen naturally ingame, you have to actively try to get his attention and wait for him to grab you, and when he does grab you it only does like 10 damage.

I like that there can be leviathans that aren’t fully aggressive! I’m sure there’ll be others in the full game, so I look forward to meeting the really mean ones!! But I like that the collector isn’t that bad once you get to know him!

well yeah but hes obviously placed in the game as if he is a roadblock and something to avoid, which he really isnt at the moment

passive leviathans could be cool but the collector is clearly put forward as something hostile.

The collector in particular feels like it’s out of place. Just looking at it I feel as though it should be in deep water near the seabed where its bioluminescence is more noticeable and it can use its limbs to move around faster, but currently it’s in relatively shallow water far above the seabed.

Potentially unpopular opinion: as much as I love the chase music, it breaks immersion immediately and removes the terror of not knowing what is in the open water. Reaper leviathans simply made loud sounds that indicated they were somewhere near, but you never knew where they were (let alone if they began to pursue you) until you SAW them. That was the most terrifying thing ever in Subnautica 1 and something I missed right away throughout my playthrough of 2.

I also agree with PepperTuna16. Collector feels very out of place in relatively shallow water. The openess makes sense, but it is far too shallow for a creature of that type and size.

I agree with both RealisticCasement and PepperTuna: Lose the “boss fight” music, and re-place the Collector somewhere deeper.

I realize this means we wouldn’t have a roadblock between the shallows and the ruins, but I’m not sure how useful it is to have a roadblock there anyway.
